My true love gave to me, three French hens.

In the case of Cardinals French hens — we look to none other than Paul DeJong, Kolten Wong, and Paul Goldschmidt. While the names would seem like the unlikeliest of trios, these three men can perform a double play like nobodies business.

Each double play during the 2019 season made your head spin and left you wondering what just happened.

Paul Goldschmidt led the team (and the entire league) with 145 double plays, DeJong followed behind with 119 (fifth best in the league) and newly awarded Gold Glove winner Wong followed in third place within the Cardinals (11th best in the league) with 103. To say that is impressive, well it is an understatement.

Not only did Goldschmidt lead in double plays, he also led in putouts for the Cardinals with 1256. He was second best in the entire league behind Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman. Wong finished fourth amongst the Redbirds with 250. DeJong finished in sixth with 211.

All three were up for Gold Gloves for the 2019 season, but only Wong received the award for his position. The other two were unfortunately snubbed in Dugout’s opinion.
