The Frontier League of Professional Baseball will open its 28th season today (May 27) with all 14 teams competing from Chicago to New York for the first time in over 600 days.

“Our communities are bursting with excitement to finally return to our ballparks and enjoy the unique experiences offered by our players and staffs on and off the fields,” League CEO Jon Danos said. “In fact, despite some ongoing restrictions and distancing protocols, I would say the enthusiasm is palpable with all the fun and possibilities that come with Opening Day and a return to life as we know it. Play ball.”

The regular season which consists of 96 games will end on September 12. Playoffs will begin shortly after and feature the winners of the four divisions competing for the Frontier League Championship.

For lifelong league fans, expect a few new changes to spice up the season. The league will introduce new rules on tiebreakers — if the score remains tied following the International Tiebreaker in the 10th inning, a home run derby shall be conducted to end the game.

Yes, a home run derby.

Fans will also have the opportunity to live stream all 672 games during the 2021 season through FrontierLeagueTV.com and the new Frontier League app for Apple and Android devices. Giving fans a chance to watch their favorite teams even on the nights they can’t make it to the ballpark.

Games will be began at 6:34 p.m. EST when the Florence Y’all’s host the Washington Wild Things. Other games: New Jersey Jackals at New York Boulders, Tri-City ValleyCats at Sussex County, Équipe Québec at Gateway Grizzlies, Southern Illinois Miners at Lake Erie Crushers, Evansville Otters at Schaumburg Boomers, and Joliet Slammers at Windy City ThunderBolts.

Signed, sealed, and delivered

After losing their 2020 season to the global pandemic, the official Partner League of Major League Baseball looks to soar this year with incredible returning talent looking to make it in the bigs. Per the league, nearly 20 contracts have already been sold to MLB.

And why is that important? Last week former Windy City ThunderBolt Tommy Nance made his Major League debut with the Chicago Cubs. He struck out the first batter faced.

Since it’s inception, the Frontier League has sold over 1,000 contracts to all 30 MLB clubs. Including José Martínez, Tanner Roark, Trevor Richards, and Aaron Wilkerson.
